ART: PAPER FOOD BY DANIEL CARSTEN

Los que me conocéis ya lo sabréis, y los que no, ahora os enteraréis... Las obras de arte en papel son uno de mis grandes objetos de deseo. Sueño con el día en que una de estas "manualidades" decore alguna de las estancias de mi pequeño pero acogedor hogar. Sueño con el día en que pueda conocer y felicitar cara a cara a alguno de los artistas que con sus delicadas y curtidas manos esculpen y dan forma a estas pequeñas-grandes "curiosidades". Sueño con el día en que al llegar a mi restaurante favorito de  la ciudad en la que viva, unos apuestos camareros me sirvan estas "delicias" en el plato y me digan -Bon appétit, Mademoiselle- y yo con una gran copa de este delicioso vino en la mano y una amplia sonrisa en la cara, les diga -Merci beaucoup. C´est très aimable à vous- ...

Those of you who already know me, you´ll know what I´m talking about and those who don´t, you´ll discover it soon... Paper art works are one of my biggest objects of desire. I dream of the day one of those "crafts" will decorate some of the rooms of my small but cozy home. I dream of the day I will be able to meet and congratulate some of the artists that, by means of their delicate and hardened hands, sculpt and give shape to these "curiosities". I dream of the day, when arriving to my favourite restaurant of whichever city I live at the time, some handsome waiters will serve these "delicacies" to me and say -Bon appétit, Mademoiselle- while, with a glass of this delicious wine in one hand and a big smile in my face, I respond to them -Merci beaucoup. PAPER CUT ART: GEORGIA RUSSEL

¡¡Buenos días!!. ¿Me echabais de menos?. ¡Siento el retraso!. Me habéis pillado en medio de un proceso gripal horrible que me ha dejado K.O. Hace tiempo que no os muestro descubrimientos más allá de la moda. Y éste en concreto es uno de los que más me apasionan: el arte en papel. Obras que esconden una verdadera historia tras ellas, delicados y minuciosos cortes que intentan descifrar lo que el ojo no alcanza a ver, intrincadas y originales formas que se van creando al paso de una no menos precisa herramienta... GEORGIA RUSSEL es una artista escocesa residente en París, cuya obra artística se basa en la disección de diferentes objetos como libros, partituras musicales, fotos o mapas, mediante su herramienta estrella: un escalpelo. El resultado son unas impresionantes esculturas que harían las delicias de cualquier crítico literario y de cualquier hogar.

Good morning!. Have you missed me?. I´m sorry for my absence!. I´ve caught a flu that doesn´t want to go away. It´s been a while since I last showed you my newest discoveries far away from the fashion theme. And this one specifically is one of my favorites: the paper cut art. Works that hide a story behind them, delicate and meticulous cuts which try to decipher what the eye can´t see, complicated and original  shapes that are created as times goes by...GEORGIA RUSSEL is a Scottish artist settled in Paris, whose work of art is based on the dissection of different objects such as books, musical scores, pictures or maps, among others. Her basic tool: a small scalpel and the final result: these precious sculptures which would delight the toughest literary critic and any cozy home.

¡¡Buenos días, my dear friends!!. ¿Como va ese, espero que, maravilloso verano?. Yo un poco pasado por agua, pero super contenta con mis cursos en la St Martins!!. La pena, que se han acabado ya... Lo bueno, todo lo que he aprendido y los buenos amigos que he hecho y espero mantener!! ;). La verdad es que ha sido un poco locura y os he tenido un poco abandonados por el mundo blogger!. Good morning, my dear friends!!. How are holidays going?. I´ve spent most of the summer under London´s rainy sky, but really happy with the fashion summer courses I´ve just sadly ended at Central Sain Martins!!. Time goes by soooo quickly. Quite a pity!!. But I´ve learned so much, and made such great friends!!;). The truth is that this month has been a bit madness and I´ve abandoned this blogger world. I´m so sorry!!!!. Estudiante de escultura y pintura por la Universidad de Arte y Diseño de Ontario en el pasado y creadora de espectaculares collares; mezcla de los más diversos materiales encontrados en los mercadillos más variopintos del mundo, como plumas, pieles y cadenas; en el presente. Una mezcla entre el universo masculino y femenino que tanto le inspira.

MARYAM KEYHANI, a sculpture and painting student in the past and designer of the most amazing necklaces in the present; mix of different materials founded at the worldwide markets, such as feathers, furs and chains. A mixture of the masculine and femenine universe that so much inspires her.

PETER CALLESEN: TRAGIC AND ROMANTIC REALITY

Buenas tardes a todos!! Hoy os dedico este post artístico relativo al papel. No es nuevo para vosotros porque ya os presenté a dos grandes artistas en la materia anteriormente. Mi último descubrimiento es un artista danés llamado PETER CALLESEN. Prácticamente realiza toda su obra en papel blanco tamaño Din A4. La razón es porque se trata del medio hoy en día más común y consumido para ser empleado como portador de información. Un material neutral, con el que todos podemos estar relacionados y por supuesto un material expuesto a la posibilidad de ser llenado con múltiples y diferentes significados. El fino papel blanco también otorga a las esculturas de papel de fragilidad que resaltan la temática trágica y romántica de sus trabajos.

Las esculturas de papel cortado exploran la mágica transformación de la plana hoja de papel en figuras que se expanden en el espacio rodeándolo. Pasa de un plano bidimensional a una realidad tridimensional en la que las figuras continúan ligadas a su origen sin la posibilidad de poder escapar. En ese sentido, hay también un aspecto de algo trágico en muchos de sus cortes.

El mundo de los sueños y los imposibles, cuentos de hadas y realidades, formas frágiles en apariencia pero con gran fuerza interior. Es en estos encuentros o confrontaciones donde, en una especie de encarnación utópica, estos trabajos cobran vida, a menudo de manera tragicómica.

Así pués, os dejo con esta "pequeña" selección de su extensa obra, para que  podaís descubrir las mil y un posibilidades de un material tan simple como complejo.

Good evening to everybody!! Today I dedicate to you this artistic post related to the paper. This is not something new for you, ´cause I introduced before to two greate artist named SU BLACKWELL (you can click in this link) and JUM NAKAO (you can click in this link).

My last discovery is a danish artist named PETER CALLESEN. A large part of his work is made of A4 sheets of paper. The reason is because it is the most common and consumed media used for carrying information today. A neutral material that we are all able to relate to, and at the same time open to fill with different meanings. The thin white paper also gives the paper sculptures a fragility which underlines the tragic and romantic theme of the works.

The paper cut sculptures explore the probable and magical transformation of the flat sheet of paper into figures that expand into the space surrounding them. It turns from a bidimensional space into a tridimensional reality where the figures are still sticked to their origin without the possibility of escaping. In that sense there is also an aspect of something tragic in many of the cuts.

The world of dreams and the impossibles, the fairytales and the reality, apparently fragile forms buth with a great strenght inside. It is in these meetings and confrontations where, in a kind of utopian embodiment, that these works become alive, often in a tragicomic way.

Therefore, I leave you with this small selection of his extended work, so that you can discover the thousand and one possibilities of a material as simple as complex.
