FASHION ILLUSTRATION: COCO´S UNIVERSE

No hablamos de Coco Chanel; ni tan siquiera de aquel entrañable personaje azul de "Barrio Sésamo" que, tanto nos enseñaba la diferencia entre estar cerca o lejos como hacía las veces de súper héroe infantil al grito de "¡¡Supercoco!!". No, no. Esta vez hacemos mención a una reciente incorporación al reino frutal en forma de diseñadora y artista gráfica proveniente de París y cuyos dibujos han copado reconocidas revistas de moda como Elle, Vogue, Nylon o Dazed & Confused, entre otras. Tras graduarse por la Escuela de Bellas Artes de París, COCO PIT, comenzó su andadura profesional como consultora comercial para diferentes diseñadores de moda y casas de costura, pasando a crear su propia empresa de consultoría creativa y tecnológica en Londres hasta por fin meterse de lleno en el maravilloso y mágico mundo de la ilustración del que nunca más ha llegado a salir. Y viendo su obra, entendemos porqué...

We aren´t talking about Coco Chanel, nor that likable blue character from children´s TV program "Sesame Street" named "Supercoco". This time we want to mention the recent incorporation to this fruity reign of a French designer and graphic artist whose little drawings have appeared in different fashion magazines such as Elle, Vogue, Nylon or Dazed & Confused, among others. After spending five years studying Fine Arts in Paris, COCO PIT began her professional career from working as a communication consultant for several leading fashion designers and Haute Couture Houses to setting up her own creative and technology consultancy company in London until finally dedicating herself entirely to the magic and lovely world of illustration, from where she hasn´t gone away. And staring a while at her work, we understand the reason...

PAPER ART: PAPIER MACHE MADE BY KIDS

Cada vez que mis ojos se topan con trabajos en los que el arte y el papel van de la mano, mi mirada empieza a iluminarse y a imaginar mundos de ensueño en los que la realidad y la ficción discurren por una linea divisoria tan fina como imperceptible. Y si en esa ecuación incluimos a niños, nada puede hacerla más ganadora. Se que algunas de vosotras sois madres, así que os quiero dedicar a vosotras y vuestros retoños (y al resto de lectores también, por supuesto) este divertido post artístico a la par que familiar donde los más pequeños de la casa son los verdaderos protagonistas de un tierno editorial firmado por la fotógrafa sueca Maria Wretlab, el estilista Sasa Antic y la artista del papel Fideli Sundqvist. Porque Suecia está de moda y los niños también. 

Everytime my eyes come across works where art and paper live together, the light in my eyes starts to bright and my mind begins to imagine dreamworlds where reality and fiction flow along a very thin yet subtle line. And if we introduce in that mathematic equation the value of children, nothing could beat us. I know some of you are mothers, so I´d love to share with you and your kids (and all my readers, of course) this funny post where children are pretty much the main stars of this editorial signed by Swedish photographer Maria Wretlab, stylist Sasa Antic and paper artist Fideli Sundqvist. ´Cause Sweeden has never been so trendy neither children have.

Buenos días mis querid@s lectores!!. Esta última semana en Madrid ha sido de locos, así que aunque mentalmente tenía intención de postear con la asiduidad que os prometí, esta vez me ha sido imposible. Pero retomamos con fuerzas!!. Supongo que algun@s de vosotr@s habréis dado comienzo ya a vuestras vacaciones... Así que a l@s que os vayáis pero sigáis estando conectados al mundo on line y a l@s que os quedáis pero soñáis con escaparos a algún lugar remoto os he preparado este bonito post en el que ilustración y bordados quedan aunados en el preciosista trabajo de la artista singapurense Izziyana Suhaimi. Lo que empezó como un mero proyecto escolar y tras un tiempo experimentando con pinceles, lápices e hilos; decidió fusionar sus dos hobbies y hacer de su obra un nuevo arte con el que impulsar la cultura popular de su tierra natal. 

Good morning my lovely readers!!. It´s´been crazy this last week in Madrid. So what I intended to be my posting timetable, I haven´t been able to carry out... I´m sorry... But I´m back with a new whole week ahead!! :) I suppose some of you may have began holidays... So for those of you who have decided to get away from the big cities but still remain on-line and those who need to stay working but dream of traveling far, far away; I´ve prepared this special post where illustration and embroidery get mixed together in the precious work of Singaporean artist Izziyana Suhaimi. What began as a mere piece of schoolwork, ended up as a great fusion of her two hobbies and a way of boosting the traditional culture of her native country. 

PINTEREST INSPIRATION: FLORA LOVING

Si hay algo por lo que tengo especial obsesión últimamente es por Pinterest, esa maravillosa red social en la que compartir fotos es el pasatiempo preferido de internautas de todo el mundo cuya más preciada pasión es la de recolectar inspiración!. Se podría decir que es mi particular droga sana y única, y más desde que alguien inteligente creó la aplicación móvil y consiguió que prácticamente todos mis minutos libres se destinasen a "pinear" y repinear"... Os dejo con algunas de las imágenes de unas de mis carpetas favoritas: FLORA pero habrá más, muchas más!!.

If there´s anything I´m lately quite obsessed with is Pinterest, that marvelous social network where sharing pictures is the favorite hobby of worldwide net users whose most precious passion is collecting inspiration!. One could say this is my particular, healthy and only drug; and even more since someone intelligent created the mobile app so that my whole free time was being spent in "pining" and "repining"... So it´s time now to show you some of the images that belong to one of my favorite files: FLORA, but I´ll show you more, much more another day!!. 

FASHION DESIGNERS: ANTIPAST SS 2012

¡¡Buenos días!!. Hoy os presento a una de las firmas japonesas que sigo más de cerca y de la que tengo el placer de contar con varias piezas en mi armario gracias a una de mis tiendas de cabecera de San Sebastián: Rosarito Piropo (Si alguna vez viajáis allí, no dudéis en visitarla. Os encantará!). Navegando por internet y perdiéndome entre su inmensidad (uno de mis pasatiempos preferidos, he de admitir...), recalé en el lookbook de esta primavera/verano 2012 de la firma ANTIPAST. Los diseñadores japoneses Junko Jinushi y Kyoto Kato son los artífices de estas maravillosas creaciones que resaltan por ser únicas y personales en un mundo tan globalizado como el nuestro. Tal y como ellos mismos relatan, el nombre de su marca fue diseñado para representar sus creencias e ideas hacia la producción de sus originales piezas que inspiran creatividad y suscitan entusiasmo al valor sin precedentes de llevarlas. Un nombre con doble sentido: por un lado un pequeño y sabroso bocado con el que abrir el apetito hasta la llegada del plato principal, como bien marca la tradición italiana y por otro la cualidad de ser anti-past (en contra del pasado), luchando por alcanzar la novedad, la creatividad y la innovación. ¿Creéis que lo consiguen?

Good morning!!. Today I´d like to introduce you to one of my fav Japanese brands which I´m lucky to find at one of my favorite shops in San Sebastian: Rosarito Piropo (whether you have the opportunity to travel to my beautiful city, don´t miss it!, I´m sure you´ll LOVE it!!). Surfing the Net (another fav hobby of mine...), I stumbled across ANTIPAST´s spring/summer 2012 collection. Japanese designers Junko Jinushi and Kyoto Kato are the artists behind this brand who manage to create these amazing beauties full of uniqueness and personality in a globalized world as ours. As they relate in their webpage, the brand name itself has been designed to represent their beliefs and ideas towards the production of their original items which inspires creativity and arouses excitements to the unprecedented value in wearing. A two-way brand-name: on one hand, a small and flavorful morsel to whet one´s appetite for the main course, as Italian tradition remarks; and on the other hand the quality of being "anti-past", striving for newness, creativity and innovation. Do you think they have achieved it?.

¡¡Buenas noches querid@s amig@s!!. Este mes está siendo de locos!. Un trabajo en ciernes y otro y en búsqueda y captura, mi despedida de Londres y mi vuelta a Madrid. Sentimientos encontrados: alegría vs tristeza vs alegría, búsqueda de casa (oooootra vez), llena cajas, vacía cajas, mil cosas por hacer y escasas horas para ello. Estos meses han pasado taaan rápido que casi no me ha dado tiempo a darme cuenta de ello. Así que mientras idealista, fotocasa, infojobs y linkedin son mis nuevos "amigos", dejo que disfrutéis con mi último ilustrador de cabecera. Él es SACHIKO KANAIZUMI, un artista japonés cuyo detallista trabajo resulta tan enigmático como bello. Sed felices y que terminéis bien el fin de semana!! ;)

Good night dear friends!!. This month is being really crazy!!. A work going and another one being searched, my London goodbye and my return to Madrid. Conflicting feelings: happiness versus sadness versus happiness again, search for a new home (againnnnn), packing and unpacking, thousand of things to do and so little time for carrying them out. All these months have gone by so quickly, I hardly didn´t have time to notice. So, while idealista, fotocasa, infojobs and linkedin are my new "friends", I want you to enjoy my latest bedside illustrator. He is a Japanese artist named SACHIKO KANAIZUMI whose intriguing work is as enigmatic as beautiful. Be happy and have a nice end of weekend!!.

ILLUSTRATION: CAMILA DO ROSÁRIO

Buenos días a todos!! Antes de embarcarme en varios cursos de verano en la Central Saint Martins (me estoy muriendo de la ilusión y los nervios...), os dejo con mi último descubrimiento en materia de ilustración. Ya sabéis que me encanta compartir con tod@s vosotr@s este tipo de cosas, así que esta vez no iba a ser menos. Os presento a CAMILA DO ROSÁRIO. Ella es una joven brasileña de tan solo 21 años (quien los pillara... jeje) estudiante de diseño de moda, cuya obra destila delicadeza y fuerza de manera armoniosa y a partes iguales. Su trabajo realizado mediante técnicas mixtas impacta por su llamativa combinación cromática y el magnetismo de sus imágenes. Podemos encontrar así, entre su obra, piezas de arte realizadas en su cuaderno de notas Moleskine, detallados dibujos realizados a mano mediante lápiz y acuarela  o collages digitales. Tal y como ella misma dice, todo a su alrededor le inspira. Desde las emociones que le provoca una canción, hasta los colores de los edificios...

Good morning to everybody!! Before embarking myself on several courses at Central Saint Martins (I´m sooooo excited, yet nervous...), I leave you with my latest illustration discovery. You know how much I love sharing with you all these things!!. So I introduce you to CAMILA DO ROSÁRIO. She is a 21 years old Brazilian girl and fashion design student, whose work of art exudes delicacy and strength in a harmonious way. Her mixed-media works impress with the bright colour scheme and the magnetizing images. We can find among her portfolio the Moleskine pieces of art, hand drawings and digital collages.   As she relates, everything surrounding her inspires her work. From the emotions which bring her a song till the colours of the buildings...

MONKI + AORTA: FUN FOR LIFE

Feliz comienzo de semana a todos!! Después de un bonito pero breve fin de semana en mi bella ciudad, San Sebastián, vuelvo un tanto cansada después de la gran boda de mi mejor amiga, pero con las pilas cargadas y con mucha ilusión por seguir dando vida y forma a mi pequeño blog... Hoy os traigo la producción fotográfica que el equipo de AORTA ha realizado para MONKI. Comenzamos con las presentaciones:

Frente a la cámara nos encontramos con MONKI, uma firma sueca cuyos diseños están cargados de personalidad, originalidad y estilo. Cortes limpios, estilo nórdico, algún que otro estampado y mucha prenda lisa. Pero sobre todo, MONKI es tanto una manera de crear vida como de crear moda. Es una tienda-concepto y una marca de moda. Las tiendas son una parte del mundo de Monki que constantemente relatan nuevas historias. La ropa tiene un estilo que representa  personalidad e independencia, una alternativa repleta de sueños cumplidos y por cumplir. Pero lo que más resalta la atención es la Responsabilidad Social Corporativa que mantienen (y que muchas empresas deberían tomar ejemplo...). Para ellos, lo más importante además de las personas, es el medio ambiente y como las prendas son manufaturadas. Monki cree que el comercio debería abordarse con humanidad, siendo abiertos y viendo a las personas como iguales, con respeto por los derechos humanos y reconocimiento de la diversidad. Respeto por el medio ambiente y conciencia ecológica son otras dos de sus grandes premisas: sus productos están libres de sustancias químicas dañinas, no venden pieles ni plumones y gradualmente van introduciendo materiales y procesos inocuos para el medio ambiente.

Detrás de la cámara nos encontramos con AORTA bajo la firma de dos fotógrafos suecos: Marco Griselj y Kristian Krän, quienes describen el sello de su trabajo cono "fotografía de moda en clave semi-documental", logrando en esta producción de moda, unas imágenes cargadas de humor y fantasía. Algo que no hubiesen podido lograr tan fácilmente sin la inestimable ayuda de la ilustradora ELLEN BERGGREN y la estilista ERIKA SVEDJEVIK. Os invito a adentraros en su universo!!

Today I bring you this photographic production which AORTA´s team has made for MONKI. Let´s begin with the introductions:

In front of the camera we find MONKI, a Swedish brand whose designs are loaded of personality, originality and style. Clean dressmaking, Nordic style, some prints and lots of plain garments. But above all, Monki is both a way of doing life and doing fashion. Monki is a store concept and a fashion brand. The stores are a part of the MONKI world that constantly tells new stories. The clothes have a style that represents personality and independence, an alternative that´s full of dreams. But what stands out more is its´ Corporate Social Responsability. For them, the most important thing, as well as the people, is the environment, and how the clothes are manufactured. Monki believes that bussiness should be approached with humanity, being open and seeing people as of equal value, with respect for human rights, and an appreciation of diversity. Respect for the environment and ecological conscience are his two other premises: its products are free of harmful chemicals, they don´t sell fur or feather downs, and gradually they are introducing materials and processes that are more environmentally friendly.

Behind the camera, we bump into AORTA consisting of two Swedish photographers named Marco Griselj and Kristian Krän, who describe their signature work as "semi-documentary fashion photography", achieving in this production, images full of humour and fantasy. Something that they couldn´t have managed to achieve so easily without the help of the illustrator ELLEN BERGGREN and the stylist ERIKA SVEDJEVIK. I invite you to enter their universe!!!. Enjoy!!!.
