FASHION DESIGNERS: FREI DESIGNS BY ANNIE NOVOTNY

Ser medianamente organizada en el mundo 2.0 y tener el ordenador "colapsado" por millones de carpetitas distribuidas en diferentes temáticas tiene su lado positivo, además de caótico. Y es que de vez en cuando te topas con maravillas como ésta que trístemente te das cuenta que han desaparecido de la faz de la tierra "fashionista". Y yo, que me he propuesto rescatarla del olvido, os quiero mostrar su última colección allá por la primavera/verano del 2012... Sí, ya se que no voy a poder ser capaz de satisfacer vuestra sed de consumismo, pero estoy segura que sí conseguiré hacer el equivalente por vuestro amor a la inspiración. 

FREI DESIGNS aúna diseño, comfort y sostenibilidad para crear una colección etérea, extravagante y por supuesto, preciosa; con las Geishas de los años 30 y los auto retratos de Frida Kahlo de los 40 en mente. El resultado: interesantes estampados y combinaciones lisas con discretas mezclas de color. Las lineas simples y limpias de la colección se contraponen a la complejidad de los cortes y la sofisticación de las siluetas asimétricas así como los conjuntos de sastrería y drapeados.  

Diseñado y fabricado en Chicago, la diseñadora Annie Novotny pone especial hincapié y cuidado en la elección de materiales y técnicas orgánicas y sostenibles. Así, vemos como su última colección ha sido realizada utilizando algodones orgánicos, tintes naturales y tejidos elaborados localmente; así como tejidos vintage pertenecientes a stocks ya pasados o botones realizados a partir de conchas o nueces. 

Cada temporada comenzaba con una historia como punto de partida. Ideas que se dibujaban a partir de sus propias experiencias, sus viajes, sus lecturas diarias y sus estudios sobre historia. Desde el colonialismo en las obras de Gabriel García Marquez hasta la fotografía de luto del siglo XIX. Su objetivo es la enfatización del arte a través de la naturaleza. 

Being well organized in terms of networking, internet and computers is quite difficult and chaotic but positive and possible if you manage to have all your millions of files perfectly tidy and labelled. One of those amazing moments is when you come across the rediscovery of a fashion label that has sadly disappeared. So my aim today is to revive it. And although I´m not gonna be able to satisfy your thirst for  consumerism, I truly hope to do the equivalence with your love for inspiration.

FREI DESIGNS merges design, comfort and sustainability to produce a beautiful, ethereal and whimsical collection of great beauty, with the inspiration of the early images of Geysha´s from the 1930´s and Frida Kahlo´s self portraits from the 1940´s. The final result: very interesting prints and plain combinations with subtle color combinations. The clean simple lines of the collection belay the complexity of the cutting, the sophisticated asymmetric silhouettes and draped and tailored pairings. 

Designed and manufactured in Chicago, French designer Annie Novotny puts special care and consciousness in the choice of organic and sustainable materials plus natural design techniques. This way we can take notice of how her latest collection has been fabricated using mostly organic cottons, natural dyes and locally manufactured textiles; as well as vintage dead stock fabric, mill ends and organic buttons made of shells or nuts. 

Each season began with a story. Ideas where drawn from experiences in travel, literary inquisition and, most important, historical study. From the colonialism in Gabriel García Marquez books to nineteenth-century mourning photography. Her main aim is to emphasize artistry through nature in everything they do.

FOOD: CHOOSE YOUR COLOR BY EMILIE DE GRIOTTES

Buenas noches!!. Mucho tiempo sin vernos, ¿no?. Que mejor manera de recuperar nuestra relación que abriendo el apetito con estas deliciosas y coloristas recetas realizadas para la revista culinaria Fricote de la mano de la diseñadora francesa de alimentos Emilie de Griottes. Bayas, zanahorias, limones, dulces, plátanos y tomates son los ingredientes perfectos para unos postres que recrean las muestras de color Pantone. ¡ÑAM!.

Good night, my dearest friends!!. Long time no see, isn´t it?. What better way of catching up with all of you guys than delighting ourselves with these delicious and colorful recipes made by French culinary designer Emilie de Griottes for Fricote magazine. Berries, carrots, lemons, sweets, bananas and tomatoes are the perfect ingredients for these desserts which recreate Pantone color samples!! YUMMI!!!.

MY STYLE: SHERLOCK HOLMES´ CAPE

Hola a todos!!. Después de estas mini-vacaciones mallorquinas vuelvo a la carga con nuevo look!!. El frío ha vuelto a Madrid... grrr.... así que mis nuevas compritas veraniegas tendrán que esperar para salir a la luz... aunque alguna ya ha asomado la cabecita... jeje!. Ya os lo enseñaré. Esta capa fue amor a primera vista. La versión ultrafemenina del respetable y admirable Sherlock Holmes. (Por cierto, habéis visto la nueva serie?. Me enganché el año pasado en Londres, y la han sacado ahora en España!. Es 100% recomendable!!). Ésta es quizá una de las prendas más especiales de mi armario!!. Los delicados y coloristas bordados, el tejido típicamente inglés, la tela de estampado naïf del forro, su hechura... Paul & Joe fue de las primeras marcas de streetwear francesas que conocí hace ya unos cuantos largos años y a la que he sido fiel desde entonces, siempre que la economía me lo ha permitido o mi santa madre me lo ha regalado... jeje!. Y los zapatos de Etro podríamos decir que fueron los pioneros en inaugurar mi pequeña-gran colección de brogues masculinos. Si mi memoria no me falla, creo que deben de tener unos diez años, así que mejor no hacer cálculos del número total de zapatos que componen la colección porque podría asustarme... jaja!.

Hi guys!!. After spending my holidays in Mallorca, Spain with hardly no internet, I´m glad to come back and begin my blogging routine again. Even though I was hoping to arrive at a sunny Madrid, weather is quite freezing, so my new spring purchases will have to wait a bit until better days appear. I bought this cape lots of years ago, it was sort of love at first sight. It´s like Sherlock Holmes´s feminine version. It´s very special for me. The delicate and colorful embroidery, the British fabric, the naïf print from the lining, the shape... everything. Paul & Joe was one of the first French streetwear fashion brands I got to know long time ago and I must say I´ve been since then devoted to it. Of course, whenever my economy has let me or the best mother worldwide has given me as a present! hehe!. And what coul I say about the Etro shoes?. I could say they´ve been the pioneers of my "small" masculine-style brogues collection. I think they might be 10 years old, so better not make too many estimations about the whole number of members of my collection... ´cause that could scare me... hehe!.

PAPER CUT ART: GEORGIA RUSSEL

¡¡Buenos días!!. ¿Me echabais de menos?. ¡Siento el retraso!. Me habéis pillado en medio de un proceso gripal horrible que me ha dejado K.O. Hace tiempo que no os muestro descubrimientos más allá de la moda. Y éste en concreto es uno de los que más me apasionan: el arte en papel. Obras que esconden una verdadera historia tras ellas, delicados y minuciosos cortes que intentan descifrar lo que el ojo no alcanza a ver, intrincadas y originales formas que se van creando al paso de una no menos precisa herramienta... GEORGIA RUSSEL es una artista escocesa residente en París, cuya obra artística se basa en la disección de diferentes objetos como libros, partituras musicales, fotos o mapas, mediante su herramienta estrella: un escalpelo. El resultado son unas impresionantes esculturas que harían las delicias de cualquier crítico literario y de cualquier hogar.

Good morning!. Have you missed me?. I´m sorry for my absence!. I´ve caught a flu that doesn´t want to go away. It´s been a while since I last showed you my newest discoveries far away from the fashion theme. And this one specifically is one of my favorites: the paper cut art. Works that hide a story behind them, delicate and meticulous cuts which try to decipher what the eye can´t see, complicated and original  shapes that are created as times goes by...GEORGIA RUSSEL is a Scottish artist settled in Paris, whose work of art is based on the dissection of different objects such as books, musical scores, pictures or maps, among others. Her basic tool: a small scalpel and the final result: these precious sculptures which would delight the toughest literary critic and any cozy home.

JACQUES-HENRI LARTIGUE, EL FOTÓGRAFO DE LA FELICIDAD

¡¡Buenos días a todos y feliz día de Reyes pasado!!. ¡¡Espero que hayáis tenido algún que otro regalo sorpresa y que estéis pasando unos días estupendos!!. Aunque poco queda ya... :(. Para coger el fin de semana con fuerza, y como mi pequeño presente navideño, os dejo con mi último descubrimiento fotográfico. JACQUES-HENRI LARTIGUE  (1894-1986)  ha sido uno de los referentes visuales del siglo XX. Fue un reconocido pintor y fotógrafo francés creador de una nueva forma de percepción fotográfica. Perteneciente a una acomodada familia de industriales, su padre le regaló su primera cámara cuando tan solo tenía 7 años, y desde entonces fue creando un "pequeño" diario con el que consiguió reflejar, con gran sensibilidad y bajo su frágil y conmovedora mirada, las nuevas formas de vida que surgieron en las primeras décadas del siglo XX, en las que las mujeres asumieron un papel activo en la sociedad y el progreso tecnológico dio lugar a nuevas formas de ocio. Impulsado por un gran miedo a la pérdida, al dolor y a la muerte, Lartigue poseía una necesidad obsesiva por retener los momentos felices de su vida. Tal y como él mismo decía, "Desde niño padezco una especie de enfermedad. Todas las cosas que me maravillan se escapan sin que pueda guardarlas lo suficiente en la memoria". Por ello, sus fotografías están llenas de vida, de magia y de optimismo. 

Good morning my dear friends!!. Hope you´ve enjoyed these party days before the working ones come back!!. I would like to share with all of you one of my latest discovery. JACQUES-HENRI LARTIGUE (1894-1986) has been, and still is, one of the most important visual references from the 20th Century. He was a well known French artist and photographer who created a new way of photographic perception. Belonging to a wealthy family, he started taking photos when he was just 7 years old, and from that moment on he began his own diary which managed to reflect the society of the modernist era, where women assumed an active role and the technologic processing gave rise to new leisure forms. Driven by a great fear to loss, pain and death, Lartigue owned an obsessive need to retain the happiest moments of his entire life. As he once said, "Since I was a child, I suffer from a strange disease. Everything that amazes me runs away and I can´t keep them enough time in my head". That´s why his pics are full of life, magic and optimism.
