MY STYLE: ABSTRACT DRESS

Terminamos el mes de Agosto, y para casi todos con él el verano, con uno de los últimos looks veraniegos de la temporada. En uno de los pocos días en los que el sol inglés decidió asomar su linda cabecita de entre las nubes (de hecho todos los looks que saqué son de la misma semana ;), el resto del més volvió a tornarse gris, frío y lluvioso...); aproveché para estrenar una de mis últimas compras rebajiles del invierno pasado (más vale tarde que nunca, no? hehe). Lo que más me gustó fue su estampado abstracto. Es como si el diseñador hubiese querido utilizar la prenda como lienzo para plasmar en ella una de sus obras pictóricas. Como si hubiese querido escribir un poema sobre la vida con el simple uso de la acuarela. Como si hubiese dejado escapar sus pensamientos a través de intensos brochazos de color...

We are sadly ending August and so, one of my last summer outfits. During one of the few days in which the English sun decided to come out from the grey and rainy clouds, I took advantage of the good weather and used for the first time one of my latest sale shoppings from last winter 2010 (better late that never, isn´t it?). What I loved the most of the dress was its abstract print. It´s as if the designer had wanted to use the garment as a canvas to give expression to one of his works of art. As if he had wanted to write a poem about life with the simple use of watercolors. As if he had let his thoughts escape through intense color brush strokes...

MY STYLE: CANDY COLOURS

Aunque el COLOR BLOCK no es una de mis tendencias favoritas esta temporada, no he podido resistirme a lucirla en uno de los pocos días en los que ha salido el sol en la "triste" ciudad de Londres. Pero eso sí, siempre llevándola a mi terreno. Para bien o para mal, soy cero minimalista. Así que el hecho de mantener un look a base de prendas lisas monocolor, no es lo mío. Necesito los estampados. Romper en cierta manera con lo establecido. Me gusta un look que destila energía y optimismo, pero desde mi prisma. Un prisma donde, en este caso, las flores tienen cabida. Flores silvestres acompañadas de delicados encajes... ¡¡Un jardín en technicolor!!. 

Despite COLOUR BLOCK isn´t one of my favourite trends this season, I haven´t been able to escape from it and I´ve worn it during one of the few days in which London´s sun has decided to raise. But, of course, always bringing it to my side.  For better or worse, I´m zero minimalist. So the fact of maintaining a look combining one-color plain garments, is not my thing. I definitely need prints. Break in some way with the established. I love styles that exude energy and optimism, but from my perspective. One where,as shown, flowers have there own place. Wild flowers paired with delicate laces... A technicolor garden!!.

MY STYLE: PREPPY LOOK

Por desgracia parece que el cambio climático nos está jugando una mala pasada y el invierno vuelve a asomar la cabecita por Londres. Eso significa que fuera ropa veraniega, tejidos ligeros y colores alegres. Toca volver a sacar del armario la lana, los cuadros escoceses y los colores apagados. Sin olvidarnos de las botas de agua, accesorio "it" en toda regla en una ciudad como ésta. Así que, que mejor momento que este para estrenar mi mejor compra rebajil de la temporada pasada: esta chaqueta de cuadros, con original volante delantero de la colección invernal de Hakei. Una prenda que pone la guinda perfecta al LOOK PREPPY, un estilo clásico, pulcro y con toques deportivos que tiene su origen en la forma de vestir de los alumnos de élite de las escuelas norteamericanas y británicas, y que tan de moda estuvo a finales de los años 70 y principios de los 80. Pero como todo vuelve en moda; prendas como blazers entalladas, vestidos camiseros, faldas retro o de tipo escocés, camisas tipo oxford, zapatos acordonados, naúticos o bailarinas... serán las que, una vez actualizadas, nos hagan las delicicias de unos pocos, o muchos, quizá. 

Unfortunately, seems that climate change is playing a dirty trick on us and winter is coming back to London. That means bye bye summer clothes, light fabrics and bright colours; and sadly welcome back to rough fabrics, Scottish tartan and muted colours. Without forgetting the rain boots, full-fledge "it" accesory in a city like this. So, what a better moment than this one to wear for the first time my best sale purchase from last season: this checked jacket, with an original frill at the front from Hakei´s winter collection. A piece of clothing which puts the perfect finishing touch to the PREPPY LOOK. A classic, neat and sporty style which has its origins in the way of dressing of the British and North American schools´elite students; and that was in fashion during the late 70´s and beginning of 80´s. But as every trend comes back again, garments such as fitted blazers, shirtwaists, retro skirts, Oxford shirts, masculine brogues, nautical shoes o ballerine flats... they will be the ones to, once updated, delight a few of us... or maybe most of us...

MY STYLE: BALENCIAGA GIRL

Hola queridos lectores!! Vuelvo a la carga!! jeje!! He aprovechado este fin de semana para acudir a uno de los lugares más en boga de estos momentos: el gran MUSEO CRISTOBAL BALENCIAGA; el cual, tras un largo periodo de más de10 años y una gran cantidad de dinero desembolsado (más de 30 millones de Euros¡¡¡¡!!!! (sí, lo sé, poned el grito en el cielo!!), por fin ha abierto sus puertas al gran público. La inauguración; a la que acudió la crême de la crême del mundo de la cultura, sociedad y política españoles, como la Reina Doña Sofía, Nati Abascal, Carla Royo-Villanova, Beatrice d´Orleans o diseñadores como Amaya Arzuaga, Miriam Ocáriz, los hermanos Ailanto, Joaquín Trías, el duo de Alvarno, Fernando Lemoniez o Juan Duyos, entre otros, además del diseñador francés Hubert de Givenchy (presidente fundador de la Fundación Cristobal Balenciaga, además de discípulo y amigo del diseñador vasco) o la gran Suzy Menkes (gurú de la moda y crítica en el International Herald Tribune); tuvo lugar el 7 de Junio. El escenario: un edificio diseñado por AV62 Arquitectos anexo al histórico Palacio Aldamar del Siglo XIX. Tradición versus modernidad. Una constante que se ve también reflejada en la obra de Balenciaga, considerado como uno de los más destacados e influyentes modistos del Siglo XX. Un genio que revolucionó la concepción del vestir y del propio cuerpo de la mujer. Perfeccionista incansable, adquirió un dominio absoluto de las técnicas de costura y dedicó su vida a depurar la construcción de sus creaciones, introduciendo extraordinarias innovaciones que le permitieron evolucionar hacia una mayor simplicidad y pureza de formas, creando diseños limpios, depurados y elegantes. Unos diseños, que podremos ver y admirar en el interior del museo, consistentes en más de 90 piezas distribuidas en 6 salas temáticas: Comienzos, Día, Cocktail, Noche, Novias y Esencial.

I´ve taken the advantage of being this weekend in San Sebastian and I´ve gone to one of the trendiest places these days: The great CRISTOBAL BALENCIAGA MUSEUM; which after a long period of time (10 years!!) and a great ammount of money spent (more than 30 million of Euros!!!!!! Yeah, you can hit the ceiling!!), has opened its doors. The inauguration day; where the cream of the crop of the Spanish society, culture and politics attended: the Spanish Queen Sophia, Nati Abascal, Carla Royo-Villanova, Beatrice d´Orleans; fashion designers such as Amaya Arzuaga, Miriam Ocáriz, Ailanto, Joaquín Trías, Alvarno, Fernando Lemoniez or Juan Duyos, among others; as well as French designer Hubert de Givenchy (The Cristobal Balenciaga Foundation´s founder president, besides the basque designer´s disciple and friend) or the great Suzy Menkes (fashion guru and critic for The International Herald Tribune); took place the 7th of June. The scenario: a huge building designed by AV62 Architects annex to the historical Palacio Aldamar from the 19th century. Tradition versus modernity. A constant feature during  the  designer´s career. Balenciaga is considered one of the most prominent and influential couturiers of the 20th century. A genius who revolutionized the dressing conception and the woman´s body. A tireless perfectionist, he had a full command of couture techniques and dedicated his life to refining the construction of his designs, introducing extraordinary innovations that allowed him to evolve towards greater simplicity and purity of form, being able to create clean, polished and elegant designs, which we will manage to see and admire inside the museum, consisting in more than 90 pieces, arranged in 6 thematic exhibition halls: Beginnings, Day, Cocktail, Night, Bride and Essential.
