FASHION DESIGNERS: FREI DESIGNS BY ANNIE NOVOTNY

Ser medianamente organizada en el mundo 2.0 y tener el ordenador "colapsado" por millones de carpetitas distribuidas en diferentes temáticas tiene su lado positivo, además de caótico. Y es que de vez en cuando te topas con maravillas como ésta que trístemente te das cuenta que han desaparecido de la faz de la tierra "fashionista". Y yo, que me he propuesto rescatarla del olvido, os quiero mostrar su última colección allá por la primavera/verano del 2012... Sí, ya se que no voy a poder ser capaz de satisfacer vuestra sed de consumismo, pero estoy segura que sí conseguiré hacer el equivalente por vuestro amor a la inspiración. 

FREI DESIGNS aúna diseño, comfort y sostenibilidad para crear una colección etérea, extravagante y por supuesto, preciosa; con las Geishas de los años 30 y los auto retratos de Frida Kahlo de los 40 en mente. El resultado: interesantes estampados y combinaciones lisas con discretas mezclas de color. Las lineas simples y limpias de la colección se contraponen a la complejidad de los cortes y la sofisticación de las siluetas asimétricas así como los conjuntos de sastrería y drapeados.  

Diseñado y fabricado en Chicago, la diseñadora Annie Novotny pone especial hincapié y cuidado en la elección de materiales y técnicas orgánicas y sostenibles. Así, vemos como su última colección ha sido realizada utilizando algodones orgánicos, tintes naturales y tejidos elaborados localmente; así como tejidos vintage pertenecientes a stocks ya pasados o botones realizados a partir de conchas o nueces. 

Cada temporada comenzaba con una historia como punto de partida. Ideas que se dibujaban a partir de sus propias experiencias, sus viajes, sus lecturas diarias y sus estudios sobre historia. Desde el colonialismo en las obras de Gabriel García Marquez hasta la fotografía de luto del siglo XIX. Su objetivo es la enfatización del arte a través de la naturaleza. 

Being well organized in terms of networking, internet and computers is quite difficult and chaotic but positive and possible if you manage to have all your millions of files perfectly tidy and labelled. One of those amazing moments is when you come across the rediscovery of a fashion label that has sadly disappeared. So my aim today is to revive it. And although I´m not gonna be able to satisfy your thirst for  consumerism, I truly hope to do the equivalence with your love for inspiration.

FREI DESIGNS merges design, comfort and sustainability to produce a beautiful, ethereal and whimsical collection of great beauty, with the inspiration of the early images of Geysha´s from the 1930´s and Frida Kahlo´s self portraits from the 1940´s. The final result: very interesting prints and plain combinations with subtle color combinations. The clean simple lines of the collection belay the complexity of the cutting, the sophisticated asymmetric silhouettes and draped and tailored pairings. 

Designed and manufactured in Chicago, French designer Annie Novotny puts special care and consciousness in the choice of organic and sustainable materials plus natural design techniques. This way we can take notice of how her latest collection has been fabricated using mostly organic cottons, natural dyes and locally manufactured textiles; as well as vintage dead stock fabric, mill ends and organic buttons made of shells or nuts. 

Each season began with a story. Ideas where drawn from experiences in travel, literary inquisition and, most important, historical study. From the colonialism in Gabriel García Marquez books to nineteenth-century mourning photography. Her main aim is to emphasize artistry through nature in everything they do.

HOLIDAYS & HOME DECO: MERRY CHRISTMAS

Las navidades ya están a la vuelta de la esquina y seguramente la gran mayoría de vosotros habréis decorado ya vuestros hogares con los abetos, guirnaldas y demás motivos típicos de la época; cosa que yo debería haber hecho ya pero no lo he conseguido. No voy a mentiros, ésta es desde hace unos años , de las épocas más tristes para mi porque me hace tener más presente a quien ya no está a mi lado y nunca más estará: mi hermano pequeño. Por raro que parezca, lo mío no es la oratoria y seguramente sabréis vosotros más sobre mi que la gente que me rodea a diario (tendré que decirles que se pasen por mi blog que a veces parece más mi diario personal que mi cuaderno de bitácora artístico... ;)). Se que no seré la única en esta situación así que para los que queráis vivir la navidad de una manera diferente, menos melancólica o simplemente os gusten las ideas originales y DIY varios; aquí os dejo con unas cuantas para el famoso arbolito de navidad. 

We are just getting prepared for Christmas days and I´m pretty sure most of you have already decorated your cozy homes with the trees, garlands and other typical adornments; something I should have done by now but haven´t done it yet. This is by far one of the saddest seasons for me for several reasons. But most of it because it reminds me even more the persons that aren´t with me and won´t be anymore: my little brother. It may sound weird, but public speaking isn´t one of my biggest skills. Whatever you want to know about me, you should read it. So maybe that´s why you might know me quite better than my relatives and friends (I should tell them to come by my blog which sometimes seems to be my personal diary rather than my artistic notebook... ;)). I don´t know whether there´s somebody in a similar situation reading me but for those of you who want to live a different Christmas, less melancholic or just love original ideas and Do It Yourself works; I leave you with some great tips for the Christmas tree.

Damos por inaugurado el comienzo de semana con este post musical. Tristemente yo no fui tocada con la varita mágica del canto, para que negarlo (los karaokes lo pueden corroborar); pero sí con la del oído, creo yo. No puedo decir que vivo por y para la música, pero sí que ésta es una constante en mi vida. Cada vez que mis ojos se topan con trabajos en los que el arte y el papel van de la mano, mi mirada empieza a iluminarse y a imaginar mundos de ensueño en los que la realidad y la ficción discurren por una linea divisoria tan fina como imperceptible. Y si en esa ecuación incluimos a niños, nada puede hacerla más ganadora. Se que algunas de vosotras sois madres, así que os quiero dedicar a vosotras y vuestros retoños (y al resto de lectores también, por supuesto) este divertido post artístico a la par que familiar donde los más pequeños de la casa son los verdaderos protagonistas de un tierno editorial firmado por la fotógrafa sueca Maria Wretlab, el estilista Sasa Antic y la artista del papel Fideli Sundqvist. Porque Suecia está de moda y los niños también. 

Everytime my eyes come across works where art and paper live together, the light in my eyes starts to bright and my mind begins to imagine dreamworlds where reality and fiction flow along a very thin yet subtle line. And if we introduce in that mathematic equation the value of children, nothing could beat us. I know some of you are mothers, so I´d love to share with you and your kids (and all my readers, of course) this funny post where children are pretty much the main stars of this editorial signed by Swedish photographer Maria Wretlab, stylist Sasa Antic and paper artist Fideli Sundqvist. ´Cause Sweeden has never been so trendy neither children have. 

LYFESTYLE: BEGINING WITH HAPPINESS

Es triste cuando tienes un proyecto precioso y lo dejas escapar. Es triste cuando tienes una gran vida y la ves pasar. Y sobre todo es triste cuando te das cuenta de ello y, tarde o no, decides cambiar tu realidad. Supongo que todos en algún momento de nuestras vidas nos hemos sentido perdidos y nos hemos adentrado en un túnel del que nos es difícil salir. Un túnel con diferentes direcciones en cada caso, pero igual de oscuro en todos. No me quiero poner melancólica o más de lo que estoy, pero ha llegado el momento de salir de ahí para mi. Y el primer paso es recuperar poco a poco todo aquello que me hacía feliz, por grande o pequeño que fuese. Empezando por mi pequeño cuaderno de bitácora. Tantas veces empezado y otras tantas abandonado. Solo espero y deseo que esta sea verdaderamente la última para mi. Vengo dispuesta a hacer pequeños cambios en su formato pero manteniendo su gran esencia y compromiso con vosotros, que es lo que al fin y al cabo me trajo desde un principio hasta aquí. Deseadme suerte.

It´s quite sad when you have a marvelous project and you leave it behind. It´s quite sad too when you have a great life and you just watch it slip away. But above all, the saddest thing is when you take notice of everything and decide to change your reality. I suppose that some of you may have found yourselves in one of these situations at some point of your lives. But the most important thing is wanting to get away from them and that is where I am now. The first step is to recover everything that made me happy, such as my blog. So many times begun and others abandoned, I just wish this to be the last one for me. I may carry out several changes in its format but that won´t affect its essence and commitment with all of you. Wish me luck!!.  

FASHION EDITORIAL: GET BUSY, GET DIZZY

¡¡Buenos días!!. ¡¡Ya ha llegado la vuelta al cole!!. Bien para mi que he desconectado y descansado como una reina, mal para vosotr@s que os he dejado abandonad@s todo este tiempo... ¡¡Pero seguro que habréis estado la mar de entretenid@s en vuestras  respectivas vacaciones por recónditas playas y calurosos destinos!!. Al hilo de mi último post acerca del creativo y amplio mundo del estampado (con sus defensores y detractores, como en toda materia), he encontrado este editorial; realizado por la fotógrafa Emily Shur para la revista Papermag August 2012; esperando su salida entre mis numerosas carpetas de archivos y solo puedo decir una palabra: BRUTAL!!.

FASHION CLOSETS: ELISA NALIN, AN ITALIAN STYLIST IN PARIS

Si hay una estilista que me encanta y a la que no me importaría parecerme (o saquear su armario) es ELISA NALIN, una italiana afincada en París que comenzó estudiando Arte Clásico y Humanidades en su Verona natal para posteriormente mudarse a Milan a estudiar Diseño de Moda en el Instituto Europeo de Diseño y acabar aterrizando en la ciudad de la luz con el firme propósito de formarse como estilista, su actual profesión; trabajando para revistas como Dazed & Confused, i-D o Vogue Nippon. Hoy os quiero mostrar su casa a grandes rasgos y su vestidor en particular. De su estilo personal, ya nos encargaremos otro día porque bien merece un post entero. Eclecticismo y color son las palabras que mejor la definen y que podréis corroborar a continuación.

If there´s a fashion stylist I love and wouldn´t mind being alike is ELISA NALIN, an Italian woman settled in Paris who began her career studying classic art and humanities in Verone before moving to Milan to study fashion design at the Instituto Europeo del Design. But after spending several years there working for Costume National and Samsonite, she was so bored and sick of the city that she decided to move to Paris and start "fresh new" with a styling career working for magazines such as Dazed & Confused, i-D  or Vogue Nippon, among others. Today I´m just gonna show you her house and closet in detail. But  don´t worry ´cause I haven´t forgotten her quirky and colorful style. It´s just that is so authentic that she deserves a special post for herself that sooner than later you´ll be able to read and admire.

Buenos días mis querid@s lectores!!. Esta última semana en Madrid ha sido de locos, así que aunque mentalmente tenía intención de postear con la asiduidad que os prometí, esta vez me ha sido imposible. Pero retomamos con fuerzas!!. Supongo que algun@s de vosotr@s habréis dado comienzo ya a vuestras vacaciones... Así que a l@s que os vayáis pero sigáis estando conectados al mundo on line y a l@s que os quedáis pero soñáis con escaparos a algún lugar remoto os he preparado este bonito post en el que ilustración y bordados quedan aunados en el preciosista trabajo de la artista singapurense Izziyana Suhaimi. Lo que empezó como un mero proyecto escolar y tras un tiempo experimentando con pinceles, lápices e hilos; decidió fusionar sus dos hobbies y hacer de su obra un nuevo arte con el que impulsar la cultura popular de su tierra natal. 

Good morning my lovely readers!!. It´s´been crazy this last week in Madrid. So what I intended to be my posting timetable, I haven´t been able to carry out... I´m sorry... But I´m back with a new whole week ahead!! :) I suppose some of you may have began holidays... So for those of you who have decided to get away from the big cities but still remain on-line and those who need to stay working but dream of traveling far, far away; I´ve prepared this special post where illustration and embroidery get mixed together in the precious work of Singaporean artist Izziyana Suhaimi. What began as a mere piece of schoolwork, ended up as a great fusion of her two hobbies and a way of boosting the traditional culture of her native country.

Buenos días!!. Llego con unos cuantos días de retraso en la publicación del post, pero llego. "Comenzamos" la semana con el TOP 5 del mes. No sigo ningún criterio ni nada parecido... Básicamente son mis últimos descubrimientos o las canciones que no puedo parar de escuchar una y otra vez hasta que el "tocadiscos" o, en pleno siglo XXI, Spotify se raya. Espero que os guste y disfrutéis de estas canciones tanto como yo!!

Good morning!!. I´m quite late posting this week, but no worries, because I´m back again!!. Let´s begin  July with my TOP 5 of songs. I haven´t followed any rule. They are either my latest discoveries or the songs I cant´s stop hearing one and a thousand times in my Spotify. I can spend long time there connecting playlists from people I don´t even know and discovering new groups from all over the world. What a great invention!!: Hope you like them (I´m sure some of them you already know...) and ENJOY!!.

MY STYLE: REUSE, SELL AND MORE

Por fin es viernes y estoy consiguiendo cumplir mi promesa de postear día sí y día no!! :) #felicidadabsoluta#. Como estoy en modo "mi armario va a estallar - no me puedo comprar muchos caprichos más", he decidido (por el momento) a) reutilizar las miles de prendas y accesorios que ya tengo y b) montar una tienda on-line con el resto de maravillas que aunque me encanten, seguro que cualquiera de vosotras les dará la vida y uso que realmente se merecen!!. Así que en cuanto esté lista, seréis l@s primer@s en enteraos!!. Lo mejor de tener un trabajo creativo es que puedes ponerte exactamente lo que quieras (siempre dentro de unos límites, claro) y el "Casual Friday" se convierte en el "Casual Everyday".  Así que para ir a la oficina este fue el modelito que elegí: un vestidito lencero blanco, una chaqueta de "ganchillo" azul marino, sandalias étnicas, mi pañuelo-mantel de picnic-, un bolso saco donde meter todas las pertenencias de Mary Poppins y poco más... 

It´s finally Friday and I´m gonna be able of keeping my promise of posting three / four times a week!!. I´m so happy for that!!. But I must say also, from one moment to the next one "mi closet is going to explode" so that means a) I have too many stuff and not so many time to wear it and b) I can´t buy so many caprices any more. So that´s why I´ve taken the decision of d) reuse the thousands of clothes and accessories I already own and e) set up an on-line shop with all the amazing clothes that, even though I still love them so much, I´m pretty sure any of you will give them the life and use they really deserve!!. So, as soon as it´s ready and working, you´ll be the first ones to find out!!. On the other hand, the best thing of working as a creative is that you can dress whatever you feel like (always having some boundaries) and that the term of "Casual Friday" becomes "Casual Everyday". So, in order to go to the office this is the look I chose: A little white dress, a knitted cardigan, ethnic flat sandals, my picnic blanket-scarf, a huge bag where to keep Mary Poppins´s belongings and few little things more...

Buenos días!!. Siguiendo con nuestro plan previsto en cuanto a días (no horas) de publicación, hoy nos toca el segundo post semanal. Voy a intentar publicar Lunes, Miércoles, Viernes y Domingos!. Si lo consigo, ya con eso me doy "con un canto en los dientes"... ;) Como creo que mi blog va de descubrimientos; esa caja llena de sorpresas que maravilla (o por lo menos lo intenta) tanto a escritora como a sus lectores; ayer mis ojos se toparon y quedaron absortos con las fotografías de esta artista francesa afincada en Estados Unidos. Todo comenzó cuando en 2004, una joven de 16 años, Anaïs Kugel, aka Julie Cerise, decidió dejar su Francia natal y cruzar el charco hacia tierras americanas y las múltiples aventuras que allí la estaban aguardando; entre ellas la fotografía que se tornó en su hobby, trabajo y pasión. Creando retratos tanto de ella misma como de sus conocidos fue como ha ido construyendo su propio universo visual en el que mezcla sus sueños con recuerdos de payasos, teatros y los cuadros de su padre; dando como resultado imágenes llenas de una enorme carga emotiva que fueron capturadas mediante cuidados detalles y una bonita y delicada luz. 

Good morning!! Keeping on with our forecasted plan, I´m gonna try to publish posts on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. If I achieve it, I´d be the happiest girl in the world!!. As I think my blog is all about discoveries, this small case full of surprises tries to amaze not only its own writer but its readers too. So that´s when my kid´s eyes stumbled yesterday into the pictures of this french artist settled in the United States and where captivated by them. Everything began when in 2004, a young 16 year old girl named Anaïs Kugel, aka Julie Cerise, traveled from France to the United States and found photography taking and increasing place in her life. Creating portraits of herself or acquaintances, she built a visual universe that mixes her dreams with memories of clowns, theaters and her father´s paintings; resulting that way images that are unmitigated emotional moments, captured through careful details and beautiful light.

Buenos días!! Por una vez voy a conseguir actualizar el lunes a primera hora (o lo más aproximado a ella)! jaja! Hoy os quiero presentar a uno de mis últimos descubrimientos en materia de jóvenes diseñadores. La historia de Samantha Pleet comenzó en el año 2006 cuando presentó su colección debut en la que entremezclaba elementos del mundo de la fantasía y el misterio junto con un sentido fuerte de modernidad. Desde entonces, cada temporada antiguas y nuevas ideas del mundo de la música, el arte, la literatura o la historia se unen con sus propios sentimientos para crear preciosas prendas realizadas con materiales orgánicos en su mayoría y una minuciosa atención al detalle y el patronaje, y fabricadas en la ciudad de Nueva York. Siluetas y prendas ligeras y femeninas con un punto sexy y juguetón que hacen las delicias de mujeres creativas como las cantantes de The Beach House, The Dirty Projectors y Au Revoir Simone. La colección presentada esta primavera/verano 2013 está basada en sociedades antiguas del Creciente Fértil y los exploradores del Siglo XIX que redescubrieron esa región. Samantha fusiona de esta manera antiguas siluetas con detalles prácticos y modernos a los que les une un aura de fantasía. La sutil paleta de colores es viva y liviana y los estampados evocan objetos preciosos. ¡¡Bienvenidos a su particular mundo!!. 

Good morning!!. First time in my life I´m gonna be able to publish the post first thing in the morning (or any time around it). Today I wanna introduce you to one of my latest discoveries among young fashion designers. Samantha Pleet´s story began in 2006 when she launched her debut collection intertwining elements of the mysterious and fantastical with a sense of modernity. Ever since then, each season new and ancient ideas from music, art, history and literature are conjured with various feelings and are transformed into clothes, made in New York City using organic materials whenever possible and a special care for details and pattern design. Lovely silhouettes and light, airy and feminine garments with playfully sexy edge that have become favorites among creative girls around the world including musicians like Beach House, The Dirty Projectors, and Au Revoir Simone. Her Spring/Summer 2013 collection, you are about to take a look to, named "Sands of Time" draws its cues from the ancient societies of the Fertile Crescent and the 19th century explorers who uncovered their stories. Samantha fuses antique silhouettes with practical and modern details around an atmosphere of fantasy. The delicate color scheme is bright and light while the prints evoke precious objects. 

PINTEREST INSPIRATION: FLORA LOVING

Si hay algo por lo que tengo especial obsesión últimamente es por Pinterest, esa maravillosa red social en la que compartir fotos es el pasatiempo preferido de internautas de todo el mundo cuya más preciada pasión es la de recolectar inspiración!. Se podría decir que es mi particular droga sana y única, y más desde que alguien inteligente creó la aplicación móvil y consiguió que prácticamente todos mis minutos libres se destinasen a "pinear" y repinear"... Os dejo con algunas de las imágenes de unas de mis carpetas favoritas: FLORA pero habrá más, muchas más!!.

If there´s anything I´m lately quite obsessed with is Pinterest, that marvelous social network where sharing pictures is the favorite hobby of worldwide net users whose most precious passion is collecting inspiration!. One could say this is my particular, healthy and only drug; and even more since someone intelligent created the mobile app so that my whole free time was being spent in "pining" and "repining"... So it´s time now to show you some of the images that belong to one of my favorite files: FLORA, but I´ll show you more, much more another day!!.

Buenas tardes!!. Continuamos la semana con dos de mis grandes pasiones: la moda y la comida. El año pasado descubrí este maravilloso blog en el que además de deleitarme visualmente con todas las tendencias de los grandes diseñadores de las pasarelas internacionales para esta primavera/verano 2013, he aprendido a preparar deliciosos platos llenos de color y sabor y muy fáciles de realizar para no expertas en materia de cocina como yo. Espero que lo disfrutéis y Bon appetit!!. 

Good evening!!. Let´s continue the first week of June with the marriage between two of my passions: fashion and food. Not so long ago I discovered this amazing blog which not only delighted me with all the international designers´creations for this spring/summer 2013, but it made me able to prepare delicious dishes full of color and flavor with very easy following recipes. Sueño con el día en que una de estas "manualidades" decore alguna de las estancias de mi pequeño pero acogedor hogar. Sueño con el día en que pueda conocer y felicitar cara a cara a alguno de los artistas que con sus delicadas y curtidas manos esculpen y dan forma a estas pequeñas-grandes "curiosidades". Sueño con el día en que al llegar a mi restaurante favorito de  la ciudad en la que viva, unos apuestos camareros me sirvan estas "delicias" en el plato y me digan -Bon appétit, Mademoiselle- y yo con una gran copa de este delicioso vino en la mano y una amplia sonrisa en la cara, les diga -Merci beaucoup. C´est très aimable à vous- ...

Those of you who already know me, you´ll know what I´m talking about and those who don´t, you´ll discover it soon... Paper art works are one of my biggest objects of desire. I dream of the day one of those "crafts" will decorate some of the rooms of my small but cozy home. I dream of the day I will be able to meet and congratulate some of the artists that, by means of their delicate and hardened hands, sculpt and give shape to these "curiosities". I dream of the day, when arriving to my favourite restaurant of whichever city I live at the time, some handsome waiters will serve these "delicacies" to me and say -Bon appétit, Mademoiselle- while, with a glass of this delicious wine in one hand and a big smile in my face, I respond to them -Merci beaucoup. HOME DECO: BOHEMIAN STYLE LOFT IN MADRID

Hace unos días encontré las fotos de este precioso loft de estilo bohemio que me enamoró desde el instante número uno!!. El dueño del mismo es el fotógrafo madrileño Manolo Yllera quien ha conseguido aunar en un amplio espacio neutral, que hace las veces de su estudio, elementos industriales con otros de marcado carácter vintage. Yo me mudaría sin dudarlo aquí, ¿y vosotr@s?.

Several days ago I stummbled into this bohemian style loft whose owner, the Spanish photographer Manolo Yllera, has managed to create a very neutral space combining industrial elements with vintage ones. I really love it and would definitely relocate there if I could, and you?.  

FOOD: CHOOSE YOUR COLOR BY EMILIE DE GRIOTTES

Buenas noches!!. Mucho tiempo sin vernos, ¿no?. Que mejor manera de recuperar nuestra relación que abriendo el apetito con estas deliciosas y coloristas recetas realizadas para la revista culinaria Fricote de la mano de la diseñadora francesa de alimentos Emilie de Griottes. Bayas, zanahorias, limones, dulces, plátanos y tomates son los ingredientes perfectos para unos postres que recrean las muestras de color Pantone. ¡ÑAM!.
