HOLIDAYS & HOME DECO: MERRY CHRISTMAS

We are just getting prepared for Christmas days and I´m pretty sure most of you have already decorated your cozy homes with the trees, garlands and other typical adornments; something I should have done by now but haven´t done it yet. This is by far one of the saddest seasons for me for several reasons. But most of it because it reminds me even more the persons that aren´t with me and won´t be anymore: my little brother. It may sound weird, but public speaking isn´t one of my biggest skills. Whatever you want to know about me, you should read it. So maybe that´s why you might know me quite better than my relatives and friends (I should tell them to come by my blog which sometimes seems to be my personal diary rather than my artistic notebook... ;)). I don´t know whether there´s somebody in a similar situation reading me but for those of you who want to live a different Christmas, less melancholic or just love original ideas and Do It Yourself works; I leave you with some great tips for the Christmas tree

FASHION CLOSETS: TABITHA SIMMONS, THE STYLIST TURNED INTO SHOE DESIGNER

LYFESTYLE: BEGINING WITH HAPPINESS

Deseadme suerte.

It´s quite sad when you have a marvelous project and you leave it behind. It´s quite sad too when you have a great life and you just watch it slip away. But above all, the saddest thing is when you take notice of everything and decide to change your reality. I suppose that some of you may have found yourselves in one of these situations at some point of your lives. But the most important thing is wanting to get away from them and that is where I am now. The first step is to recover everything that made me happy, such as my blog. So many times begun and others abandoned, I just wish this to be the last one for me. I may carry out several changes in its format but that won´t affect its essence and commitment with all of you. Wish me luck!!.

ILLUSTRATION: EMBROIDERED PAINTINGS BY IZZIYANA SUHAIMI

Good morning my lovely readers!!. It´s´been crazy this last week in Madrid. So what I intended to be my posting timetable, I haven´t been able to carry out... I´m sorry... But I´m back with a new whole week ahead!! :) I suppose some of you may have began holidays... So for those of you who have decided to get away from the big cities but still remain on-line and those who need to stay working but dream of traveling far, far away; I´ve prepared this special post where illustration and embroidery get mixed together in the precious work of Singaporean artist Izziyana Suhaimi. What began as a mere piece of schoolwork, ended up as a great fusion of her two hobbies and a way of boosting the traditional culture of her native country.

MY STYLE: CORAL IN THE CITY

Today I´m gonna show you one of those summer looks which I´d love to wear everyday but San Sebastian´s rain and winter temperatures don´t allow me yet. Both of them are sooo comfortable in this city that, not only they are getting all the citizens depressed (including me) but they have brought me as a "present": a bronchiolitis. I´m so "happy" about that, I could throw a party tonight if my (granny´s) health allowed me... hehe. The good thing about this is that I feel it´s time to quit smoking once and for all!! My economy will be happy too about this decision I´m about to make, don´t you think so?. Today´s look is all about clothes i´m very fond of for one reason or another: Memories from family trips, summer holidays in Mallorca, experiences with my youngest brother who´s not here any more... Memories I will never forget but remain at some out-of-the-way place of my mind and from time to time appear with energy inside me.

MY STYLE: BOATS, ANCHORS AND MERMAIDS

It´s been long time since I last posted one look of mine but until I get my sister-photographer back, I´ll have to look at past files and show them all... These pics were made by a great blogger friend: Roberto Sena from Life Behaviour due to the opening of "Indi & Cold"´s new shop in Lagasca´s street in Madrid. I really recommend you both of them. He is not only an amazing proffesional in the fashion industry but a lovely person too. And "she" is a beautiful Spanish brand which designs women clothes and goes for creativity, feminity, color and passion for the small details. A brand that I´m honoured to having been able to see it grow and that I hope it continues doing it so.

HOME DECO: BOHEMIAN STYLE LOFT IN MADRID

Several days ago I stummbled into this bohemian style loft whose owner, the Spanish photographer Manolo Yllera, has managed to create a very neutral space combining industrial elements with vintage ones. I really love it and would definitely relocate there if I could, and you?.

FASHION ICONS: IRIS APFEL

IRIS APFEL or RARE BIRD OF FASHION, as she is well-known, is a whole fashion icon today, as well as a  business woman (she launched with her husband,in the early ´50´s, a textile company named "Old World Weavers" spezialised in weaving exact reproductions of antique-period fabric) and an interior designer (Her clients were, among others, Greta Garbo, Estée Lauder or The White House). Her taste for journeys and  collecting objects, fabrics and garments bought at the most hidden places from all over the world, have made her a fashion institution, not only for her eclecticism in dressing, but also for her individuality. Something really difficult  to achieve nowadays...

"The fun of getting dressed is that it´s a creative experience... Have fun with it!"

UN PASEO POR EL MUSEO:
A WALK ALONG THE MUSEUM:

In 2005, Apfel´s highly original personal style will be celebrated in an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York named "Rara Avis: The Irreverent Iris Apfel". It was such a success that the exposition became itinerant travelling along different museums in USA. What a shame it didn´t arrive here!!.

IRIS APFEL: TODA UNA VIDA DE MODA
IRIS APFEL: WARDROBE OF A LIFETIME

Iris Apfel is a woman who has always been ahead of her time and an influential pioneer in the world of fashion as well, boldly linking high- and low-end and melding flea market finds with Haute Couture long before doing so was considered fashionable. Her richly layered combinations of colours, textures and patterns show her remarkable panache. As she says, dressing up or down should be a creative experience. Exciting. Fun. And for her, the key to personal style lies in accessories: one can change the entire look of an outfit by substituting one accessory for another. She loves objects from different worlds, different eras, combined her way; never uptight, but achieving a kind of throwaway chic. Pieces, mostly junk jewellery made of plastic or oversized ethnic jewellery, she found years ago in Greenwich Village, the London street markets, the Sablon in Brussels, the Puce and shops in Paris, the bazaars and souks in Istanbul, Cairo, Tunis and Marrakesh... She loves a timeless look, the fact of developing her own, personal and unique style by mixing garments she has recently bought with other things she has hoarded for 30 years. She doesn´t follow trends or the hottest fashion, but buys what she likes. She loves ethnic as well as contemporary. She is fond of serious and adore amusing, trying to make all those things work well together. Among her favourite designers we can find names as Ralph Rucci, Gianfranco Ferré, Geoffrey Beene, Galanos and Norell. They are all part of one beautifully cut tradition. Iris loves clothes that look deceptively simple, but are really very complicated and architectural. Clothes that are sometimes more beautiful inside than outside. Besides, she loves Moschino, Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana and Krizia´s amusing clothes as well, full of great style and humour. I could be able to speak at length about her, but I´m going to let her excentric yet peculiar wardrobe and house speak themselves!.

UNA CASA LLENA DE VIDA
A HOUSE FULL OF LIFE

De mayor quiero ser como ella... ¿y vosotr@s?
When I grow up ... I wanna be Iris Apfel... and you?
